Designation: CEO of Harry Winston Inc/ Chairwoman of Swatch Group
Sawing off competition from several bidders, Nayla Hayek, acquired the world’s largest flawless vivid blue diamond, The Winston Blue, after she took over Harry Winston Incorporated in 2013.
The luxury diamond jeweler and timepiece retailer has salons in key locations throughout the world—including New York, Paris, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Beverly Hills.
The daughter of Lebanese-born Nicolas George Hayek, the late co-founder of the Swatch Group, Nayla joined the Group’s board in 1995 before becoming its chairwoman in 2010, after her father’s death. Swatch’s importance lies not just in the fact that it is such a huge manufacturer; it makes most of the parts for other Swiss watches. The firm has been on the acquisition war path in recent years; brands including Breguet, Blancpain, Omega, Longines and Tissot.
As a member of the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO), and as international Arabian horse judge, Nayla’s high profile contacts contribute to business and promotional activities of Swatch Group and she is responsible for the local organization in Dubai (Swatch Group Middle East) on site. Now an owner of more than 60 Arabian purebred horses, she says that her passion for horses started when she was a child and wanted to buy a pony.
Her activity as a horse breeder and expert in Egyptian horses helps the group build and maintain contacts with the Middle East.
