When you meet Luanne, you realize that she exudes a kind of confidence and comfort that many women strive to possess all their life. She is UAE’s first plus size blogger and has titled it ‘Weesha’s World’ where she shares outfit posts, beauty reviews and favorite online shopping finds for fellow plus sized women.
Luanne started blogging when she saw a TV segment, one day, on Mia Tyler, actress, public speaker, daughter of Aerosmith’s lead singer Steven Tyler and a plus size model herself. In her personal quest for self-acceptance and a positive body image, Luanne decided to share her thoughts through an online portal. She completely credits her blog to help her succeed that pursuit. With her favourite fashion era to be the 70s, Luanne’s personal style is more eclectic. Since she doesn’t fit into one particular style, she loves proving that plus sized women can be extremely trendy too. However, she does tend to lean towards bohemian more.
As a child, the 29-year-old blogger faced the pressure of the so-called norms of the society to look a certain way. Even her family, on many occasions, suggested that an effort could be made to maybe look different. But blogging changed her whole perspective on that subject. It questioned the beauty standards forced upon women. She now feels a sense of purpose by putting some good thoughts out there in the world through her blog and hopefully inspiring women of all sizes to accept and love their bodies despite all the negativity they are exposed to everyday.
Luanne often gets mails from women who struggle with pressure from their family and friends because of their weight. She encourages them to get out of their comfort zone through her posts. Her mantra is clear, ‘If you like it, you wear it’. She advises women to wear what feels comfortable first than worrying about what flatters their body type. Weesha’s world has taught Luanne a lot more than just to be self-accepting of her image. It has, additionally led her to a career in digital marketing. Apart from creativity and discipline Luanne has learnt photography, networking and web design skills. Her future plans include creating a shopping section where her readers can shop her closet. So what does the blogger do when she’s not blogging? “My perfect evening is a home cooked meal followed by catching up with my favorite TV shows on the with my three cuddly cats. Isn’t the life of a fashion blogger glamorous or what?” Luanne laughs.
