Carolina Herrera was honored by Savannah College of Art and Design with the university’s prestigious Étoile Award, given in recognition of Herrera’s outstanding contributions to fashion, culture and design. In celebration of the house’s 35th anniversary, the SCAD Museum of Art and SCAD Fash Museum of Fashion + Film presented “ Refined Irrelevance”, two expansive exhibitions of Herrera’s designs which opened simultaneously today at SCAD FASH in Atlanta and SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah. This marks the first-ever museum showing Herrera’s formidable work.
The exhibition curated by Rafael Gomes, SCAD director of fashion exhibitions and Patricia Herrera Lansing, showcases over 75 garments both new and vintage Herrera clothing from her 1981 inaugural collection to now. The capacious presentation will include runway looks, bridal collections, red carpet gowns worn by Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, Tina Fey, Renée Zellweger, Lucy Liu and even pieces from Mrs. Herrera’s personal collection.
